A family has been torn apart, and a brother fights a sister. What is it all for? Absolutely nothing. This fight is meaningless; it accomplishes nothing. Zuko won, and we know how that went. If Azula won, Aang would still be able to defeat her and take away her bending. Siblings who used to be close, who less than 10 episodes ago were actually getting along well together, are now battling each other in a fight that both of them expect will result in the death of the other. Damn you, Ozai, for treating your own children like tools. Damn you, Iroh, for not having a care in the world for your own niece. It didn't have to be this way. But this is what happened. And it ends with a little 14 year old girl chained up, kicking and screaming, being dragged off to a place where she will never feel beloved Agni's rays again, bawling her eyes out at the realisation that her mother did love her after all. I adore this battle precisely because it is meaningless. It accomplishes A:TLA's anti-war message so, so well.

Someone needs to make a powerful montage/music video of this song with video clips of all the chaos going on in the world from natural disasters, to the BLM riots that were going on in 2020 to panic in the streets, etc…. That would be like the most powerful video ever.

This could easily be some dark souls boss music right here. just amazing

I also love the subtile storytelling the music does, subconciously informing us about whats going on beneath the obvious. While the dueling mournfull violins very much perfectly represent the conflicts background, the drums are very important and informative. They mirror the drums we hear in the theme during the first one we see, but instead of coming in and out irregulry in bursts of action, they just continue in a mesured, controlled, breath like pattern. Adding in that they follow Zuku, are in rythm with his moves, while Azula goes against them, it tells us one thing very clearly. As is said, to master firebending mastering your breath is important. And Zuku has masted his fire bending, while Azula is slipping. He is in controll here, in tune with his bending. It´s absolutely beautifully done.

The fight scene was well animated but quite poorly written in multiple ways. I had started writing a lengthy post on this but nobody will read it and it's a waste of effort. In summary the main problem is that the climatic battle in Zuko's arc is not resolved by Zuko himself but by Katara and to make it even worse she wins with a trick.

In the end, Fate reversed their roles. The girl that had everything had nothing. The boy that had nothing gained everything.

This wasnt a kid cartoon. It was so meaningful, detailed realistic character development. Well done to this anime.

Listened to this after getting into a physical fight with my sister. Before I did I was more angry than I ever have been in my entire 19 years of living. While I listened to it, I realized how me sister and I had failed eachother, and thrown aside the bond siblings should have- a supportive column you’re blessed with from birth. I cried and cried. My anger was only masking the pain and loneliness I was feeling after our altercation. We lived in the same house together too for a time due to circumstances in the pandemic, so I was forced to see her everyday, but couldn’t talk to her. We were sisters estranged while living right next to eachother, and I had to watch my sister throw herself into overtime hours to escape from our silent void of a house. I’m writing this now at a time when we are now on speaking terms again. It took us almost a year. A year of longing. Please treasure your family (if you have a good relationship with them) you never fully realize the value of them being there until they are gone, especially when you get older. For every year that passes it gets harder and harder to make up these kinds of relationships. But then again, a lot of things I thought were problematic when I was younger seem much more trivial now, and relationships and time are fickle like that. One apology might save a relationship, even if you haven’t spoken in years.

Azula deserves better she needs a redemption arc

What captivated me about this scene that it wasn’t just morally good V. morally bad. It was about the last hope for the fire nation against the pride of the family line

This particular song is AMAZING. I'll never forget this episode and how I vividly remember me saying out loud "Wow this music is incredible"

I felt horrible for Azula in the end. She was misreable. And it wasn't even her fault. Ozai turned her into a weapon and used her as a puppet her whole life. It's a big dissapointment she didn't make an appearance in LOK

If only Azula could've been saved from herself. This music is beautiful in how it sums up the battle that shouldn't be occurring, but for the world to exist in peace, it must...

an abused sibling versus a neglected sibling. this is not a triumph. this is a sad scene

I just hope this show doesn't get another sequel to ruin everything like every remake of a show nowadays

Aaron Ehasz (headwriter of the show) wanted to write a fully fledged redemption arc for Azula in a possible book 4, bummer it never happened.
